What you'll learn

The 3D game art course and 2D game art course at EXR Games are built for students aged 18-28 who want to specialize in the visual craft side of game development = the character designers, environment artists, and texture artists studios are actively hiring for. Training happens at South India's dedicated gaming campus in Tirur, Kerala, under mentors who've worked on real character and environment art for shipped games, not instructors teaching software tutorials disconnected from production pipelines.

By the end of the program, you will be able to:

Design compelling game characters - apply anatomy, silhouette, and personality-driven design principles to create characters ready for 2D or 3D production.
Build professional 3D game art - model, sculpt, and construct game-ready 3D assets using industry-standard software, from props to full character models.
Create immersive environment art - design and build game environments and levels that support both visual storytelling and gameplay flow.
Master digital painting for games - produce concept art, texture paintings, and 2D game art assets using professional digital painting workflows.
Texture and surface game assets - apply UV mapping, texturing, and material work to make 3D models production-ready and visually polished.
Understand the full 3D art pipeline - move confidently from concept art through modeling, UV unwrapping, texturing, and final asset delivery, the same pipeline used at real studios.

Course facts at a glance: 4 modules · 64 lessons · 16 weeks · Beginner to Advanced level · Minimum Plus Two eligibility · Batch size 10–20 students · Online, offline, and hybrid delivery · New batches every 1st and last week of the month · Free demo class available · EMI payment options · EXR + Unity Certified + KCDS Certified on completion. This is the same 2D and 3D game art pipeline EXR Games And Academy uses on its own character and environment work, which is why our graduates step into Character/Env Artist roles with a portfolio that already looks like production work - not just class assignments.

Frequently asked questions

A 3D game art course teaches you to create three-dimensional game assets - characters, props, and environments - using modeling, sculpting, and texturing tools like Blender and Substance Painter, then preparing them for use in a game engine.

A 2D game art course teaches digital painting, concept art, and character/environment design in two dimensions, covering the skills used for sprite-based games, concept art, and pre-production visual development.

2D game art is flat, painted or drawn artwork used for sprites, concept art, and UI. 3D game art involves building actual three-dimensional models, textures, and environments that exist and can be viewed from any angle inside a game engine. This course covers both.

Basic interest in art helps, but the course starts with drawing and composition fundamentals, so complete beginners with a genuine interest in art can succeed.

All three. You can train online, attend in person at our Tirur campus, or join the hybrid track that combines both.

A minimum qualification of Plus Two (12th grade) is required. No prior art or design background is necessary.

Yes. EMI options are available so cost isn't a barrier to starting your career in game art.

You'll learn Blender for 3D modeling, Substance Painter for texturing, ZBrush for character sculpting, and Adobe Photoshop/Procreate for digital painting and concept art.

Yes. The final module covers integrating your finished 3D game art assets into Unity 3D and Unreal Engine, so you understand how art assets function inside a real engine.

Yes. On completion, youll receive certification from EXR Games, Unity Technologies, and KCDS.

Yes. We provide resume building, portfolio review, mock interviews, and direct connections with industry partners hiring game artists.

Yes. All students receive structured study materials to support in-class and self-paced learning.

Graduates are prepared for roles including Character Artist and Environment Artist, with pathways into concept art, texture art, and technical art roles.

You'll build a complete portfolio including 2D concept art, a fully designed character, and a textured, game-engine-ready 3D asset - the same kind of portfolio studios expect from junior game artists.

Game art skills transfer well into animation, film/VFX, and product visualization, though this course is specifically structured around game production pipelines.

EXR Games' campus is in Tirur, Kerala, with offline classes held on-site and online/hybrid options for students anywhere in Kerala who can't attend in person.
